What To Wear To Work This Week (And Where To Catch The Deals!)
Trendy on a Budget has every lady of the iLab covered!
Meet Linda, the 30-something Boston blogger behind one of our FAVORITE fashion blogs (that also saves us a fortune!), Trendy on a Budget. Not only is Linda a compliance specialist who climbed her way up the corporate ladder at a financial services company, but she also runs her own fashion blog as a creative outlet for her love of fashion (AND she is planning her wedding this fall, yay!). Just like us, Linda loves fashion even more when she finds a great deal. Women’s iLab sat down with Linda to share her tips and tricks with the ladies of the iLab!
What should we wear this week?
For the business look…
Dress or Skirt? Those tend to be my choices in the morning as I am getting dressed for work, especially with the warmer weather finally upon us. But on days where I have a meeting or presentation to an executive-type audience, I try to stick with classic business attire. A black suit usually does the trick, but only after I apply a few tweaks of my own.

For the startup or everyday casual look…
Oh the chambray top; a closet staple I can’t seem to stay away from! This particular one had me at hello. The structured boyfriend style is softened by the gorgeous all over floral print and light weight fabric. The minute I laid eyes on it, I had to have it. The fact that it was on sale didn’t hurt the cause, either. I am already thinking about how easy it’ll be to style this top many other ways: underneath a shift dress, with a pair of shorts or with a solid pencil skirt and pumps for that casual day in the office.

For the networking event or work night out…
What I love most about this dress is how colorful it is without being overwhelming. It is easy to highlight any one of the many colors woven into the fabric of this dress. Eenie, meenie, miney, mo! I decided to go with a bright yellow cardi, giving it the work appropriate touch. The fullness of the skirt gave it a nice swing as I sashayed my way through the office.

Where do you find your deals and steals?
Lots of shopping, without necessarily buying anything! But when I do decide to buy, I follow a few simple rules: (1) refuse to pay full price, (2) shop at discount stores (Marshall’s anyone?) and online boutiques (love my 11AM rue la la breaks) and (3) find affordable brands. My goal on this blog is to make finding those deals easy for you and to prove that looking good shouldn’t cost that much!
Do you have a style icon?
Style is an expression of yourself, I don’t believe in dressing for what’s in season or in style at that very moment. Wear what is right for you. If I want to wear a bright pink handbag in the middle of winter, I am going to wear it. There are no rules. If I had to pick on icon, it would be Diane von Furstenberg! She is a role model to women in business for being an independent, female entrepreneur and proving that fashion does not go out of style. Her classic wrap-dress is timeless!
What advice do you have for other women building their brand?
Find what is true to you. I have learned that finding really great mentors and proving myself in a role as key to opening up new opportunity windows in my career. In doing so, you will never be pigeon held because people who believe in you will support you in whatever you want to do .With Trendy on a Budget, my financial services background carried through well for me to the blog. As for blogging, write and sponsor companies/products/services that are true to your band. Be authentic and remain true to yourself
