It’s a (Wo)man’s World Music Artist Feature: Reva DeVito

Each month, I will feature a talented female music artist who is not very well- known in the music industry. Although we have women like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift dominating the Top 40 charts, the rest of the industry is still very male dominated. This series is meant to highlight the ladies who are killing it because they are talented, beautiful, dedicated, passionate, and able to rock a crowd. If you have an artist you’d like to see highlighted, please mention them in the comments!

There isn’t too much about this girl on the internet. There is the standard Facebook page, Twitter timeline, Instagram profile, and Soundcloud posts, but I haven’t been able to find out much about Reva Devito other than that she’s from Portland, OR and that her music is exactly what I’m looking for. I don’t remember how I found this track, but since hearing it, I’ve been hooked on her sound:

Kisses has that throwback feel. It’s slightly retro with grooves and soul that reminds me of a time when pop music consisted of actual melodies as opposed to the same electronic drops song after song. The backdrop is simple yet engaging, and Reva’s vocals really brings out the subtlety of it, creating a catchy tune. This track has been on rotation since my discovery and it’s not about to fall out any time soon. Another plus side, it’s downloadable for FREE!

Other tracks on Reva Devitos’ Soundcloud page have a similar feel: groovy, soulful, and sexy. It doesn’t matter if the beat is more R&B or house, her vocals are able to bring the whole track together and give it the element that’s missing as if you were just listening to the instrumentals alone. Though Reva’s Soundcloud only has five tracks, from the looks of a recent post by HW&W (the record label she’s currently signed to), there will be an album coming out in the summer from Reva Devito. HW&W focuses on electronic music that’s groovy and soulful, usually with an R&B feel. I can’t wait for the album, but in the meantime, enjoy this gem from Reva and producer Kaytranada.
