It’s a (Wo)man’s World Music Artist Feature: Annie Mac

Each month, I will feature a talented female music artist who is not very well- known in the music industry. Although we have women like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift dominating the Top 40 charts, the rest of the industry is still very male dominated. This series is meant to highlight the ladies who are killing it because they are talented, beautiful, dedicated, passionate, and able to rock a crowd. If you have an artist you’d like to see highlighted, please mention them in the comments!

Annie Mac, best known as a radio show host on BBC1, has been at the forefront of dance music for more than 10 years. Because she is never afraid to experiment and promote different sounds, dance music fans around the globe tune in to Annie Mac every week to hear the newest music that’s pushing dance music boundaries. Though she doesn’t produce any music herself, her non-conformist culture of promoting what she believes is the best music shows her breadth of knowledge and intuition. Head over to BBC Radio 1’s page to check out some older episodes of Annie’s shows.

Annie is also a most sought-after club DJ. When she’s not busy juggling her many radio shows on BBC1, she’s actively bringing the party around UK nightclubs. I get excited whenever I find an Annie Mac mix because she shares some of the best music. Listeners also get to experience the journey that she crafted for the set. She’s currently doing a mini-tour in the USA, so if you’re lucky enough to be in one of the cities she stops in, or if you’re lucky enough to be at Coachella, make sure to catch her live!
