It’s a (Wo)man’s World Music Artist Feature – Alison Wonderland

Each month, I will feature a talented female music artist who is lesser known in the music industry. Although we have Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, etc dominating the Top 40 charts, the rest of the industry is still very male dominated. This series is meant to highlight the ladies who are killing it because they are talented, beautiful, dedicated, passionate, and able to rock a crowd. If you have an artist you’d like to see highlighted, please mention them in the comments!

Alison Wonderland

This month’s highlight is Alison Wonderland. Already making a name for herself as a DJ/Producer nearly 3 years ago in Australia, Alison has become one of the most sought-after artists to remix and collaborate with in the US recently. Originally a classically trained cellist with the Sydney Music Conservatorium, Alison now calls a mixer and a pair of decks her instruments. Her production is intricate, intense, genre-bending, evokes a lot of emotion and often include her own vocals. What I love most about her work is she is able to bring all these complex elements together and make them sound so beautiful. Her music can be poppy, but with enough oomph to bring you in and let you sink into the intensity of it all.

Alison is also a girl who is not afraid to have fun. Her live sets are party-rocking, and she names A-Trak and DJ AM among influences to her DJ style. It’s incredibly inspiring to see how far she’s come in just a couple of years. Some of her accomplishments include signing with EMI in 2012, touring and headlining festivals all over Australia, DJing a Grammy Awards after party, being featured in festivals around the globe, topping Hype Machine, and most recently signing with Astralwerk Records, to name just a few. Her debut EP, Calm Down, hit the top iTunes charts and amassed over 2 million streams on her Soundcloud. This week’s Coachella announcement also included Alison Wonderland’s name in the lineup. This is a dream come true for her, and I am so happy to see her succeed doing what she loves. If you are going to Coachella this year, make sure to stop by her stage to see her perform!
