#WomenDoingWell: Presents with purpose holiday gift guide

We-make-a-living-by-what-we-get.-We-make-a-life-by-what-we-giveAs the savory scent of stuffing fills our noses, Target TV spot tunes crawl into our heads and refuse to leave. Thanksgiving is here, Black Friday is next, and then we all start wondering if there really are any gifts out there that aren’t ties for dad or perfume for mom. I’ll do you one better. Gifts that give, presents with purpose. For years, my sister and I have been donating to or volunteering for charities in lieu of buying our mom one more soy candle or dad another pair of itchy wool socks. Take a look at some unique gift ideas that keep the giving going.

1. FOR THE ART ENTHUSIAST: ARTLIFTING Artlifting sells unique work by homeless, disabled and disadvantaged individuals.

You don’t have to hold a degree in fine arts to appreciate the work being done by Boston-based company ArtLifting. By utilizing a  Profit Split model, artists always receive the majority of the profit from sales of their work (55% for prints). ArtLifting’s mission is to “empower homeless, disabled, and other disadvantaged individuals through the celebration and sale of their artwork.”

Whether your roommate needs a new staple piece to hang above her bed, or your brother just bought his first condo, gifting a piece from ArtLifting is sure to be well-received. Learn more about the artists behind each collection when you purchase here (and check back for a full feature on the organization next month!).

2. FOR YOUR FASHIONISTA FRIEND: HELEN FICALORA

LillySarahGrace Eye Charm

Every woman loves a big statement necklace, but we can’t forget that little staple piece that is always waiting in the wings. Helen Ficalora partnered with nonprofit LilySarahGrace to bring you their LilySarahGrace Eye Charm. 25% of the proceeds are donated to the LilySarahGrace Foundation to support teachers in underfunded public elementary schools to reach all learners through the arts.

The price tag is a little more steep than a stocking stuffer, but try sticking it at the top of your list and hope your significant other or mother cares for the cause too.

3. START ‘EM EARLY-SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS: RxART

RxArt Coloring CoverThere’s no better time to teach the little ones in your life about helping others than the holiday season. With the use of site-specific art installations, nonprofit RxArt gives pediatric hospital facilities a makeover to provide children and their parents with a more comfortable atmosphere, and warm feeling of hope.

For every coloring book sold, a second one will be donated to a children’s hospital facility in hopes that the interactive, colorful activities will help take the scary out of the experience for kids, and put parents more at ease.

Purchase one here, and check out the other holiday products RxArt offers for sale with a 100% of the profit aiding the cause.

4. FOR THAT GIRLFRIEND WHO IS ‘GOING GREEN’-CUPPOW!Cuppow

Hold on, there’s a gift that gives the environment a break and also donates a percentage of profit to charities? Cuppow is basically a superhero disguised as a drink ware accessory. Just when we thought dropping a bouquet of sunflowers in a mason jar was the best thing since Pinterest itself, Cuppow changed the game by creating lids to turn mason and canning jars into portable drink ware, lunch boxes, and even cocktail serving accessories.

Their eco-friendly system takes it one step further by offering special edition color coded Cuppow covers-each supporting a different charity. Click here to purchase a charity Cuppow, and poke around the whole site while you’re at it.

5. FOR MOMMY’S TIME OUT-KIEHL’S CREME DE CORPSKiehl's Norman Rockwell

She probably has a vast collection of Yankee Candle jars by now, so why not increase Mom’s relaxation factor by adding in a soothing moisturizer to ward off dry, winter skin? 100% of Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Norman Rockwell Edition net profits up to $100,000 from the US sales of this Limited Edition product will support Feeding America®, providing 1 million meals to families this holiday season. Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, whose mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of food bands.

The holiday season is still young-send us your recommended Presents with Purpose and we’ll add them to our post.  Just email us at info@womensilab.com with the subject: #WomenDoingWell: Presents with Purpose.
