Kate Upton, Bobbi Brown And Women Nation-Wide Inspire Victoria’s Secret To Edit ‘Perfect Body’ Campaign

Last week, I was surprised and intrigued to see supermodel, Kate Upton, re-gram this post from Bobbi Brown Cosmetics on Instagram.

In early October, Victoria’s Secret launched their ‘Perfect Body’ campaign in the US and the UK, which featured an image of several rail thin models posing in lingerie with the words “The Perfect ‘Body’” emblazoned across the photo. And it comes with no surprise, that Victoria’s Secret’s ‘Perfect Body’ mantra did not go over so well and the brand was quickly put under fire.

Quickly thereafter, the campaign was singled out by critics who claimed the ad sent harmful messages about body image to women and girls. Hundreds of men and women blasted their thoughts toward the campaign over social media. Celebrities and companies including Kate Upton, Bobbi Brown, and Dear Kate, joined forced to take a stand against the message.  Even a petition was created on Change.org, challenging Victoria’s Secret to “Apologize for, and amend the irresponsible marketing of your new bra range ‘Body.'”

Victoria’s Secret Heard Loud and Clear

While Victoria’s Secret has not yet formally apologized, it has replaced the slogan on its website with a new one: “A Body For Every Body.”  Let’s hope this slogan goes over more well, Angels. It will be interesting to see if the company responds to the public’s clear opinion to see more everyday women in the much anticipated annual Fashion Show coming up later this year.
