The White House announced this week that Megan Smith, former Google executive, is the country’s first female chief technology officer and assistant to the president.

On his first full day in office, President Obama created the U.S. Chief Technology Officer (CTO) position within the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to lead Administration-wide efforts to unleash the power of technology, data, and innovation to help meet our nation’s goals and the needs of our citizens.

“Megan has inspired so many people through her commitment to inclusion and innovation,” said Google co-founder Sergey Brin. “We’ll miss her at Google [x] and are excited to see what the future holds for her in Washington.”
